Vestry

The term "vestry" originated in Great Britain and referred to the room next to the sanctuary of the church where the sacred vessels and vestments were kept. The men conducting business of the parish met in this room, and that group came to be known as the vestry.

The vestry is responsible for the financial and administrative business of the parish.  Vestry members also participate in the spiritual leadership of the parish, in collaboration with St. Luke's rector, Mother Casey Rohleder.

The vestry consists of six persons elected by the congregation at the annual parish meeting in late January of each year.  Two members are elected (or re-elected) each year to serve a three-year term. To be eligible to stand for election, a person must be a member in good standing.  Officers include the senior warden, junior warden, clerk, and treasurer.  The senior warden is chosen by the rector. The vestry selects the remaining officers from among the members of the vestry.

The vestry meets on the first Sunday of the month at 11:15 a.m.  Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are open to members of the congregation.

Current Members of the  St. Luke’s Vestry are pictured above (left to right):
