Vestry
The term vestry originated in Great Britain and referred to the room next to the nave of the church where the sacred vessels and vestments were kept. Those conducting business of the parish met in this room and it came to be known as the vestry.
The Vestry is the lay governing body of the parish consisting of six persons elected by the congregation at the Annual Parish Meeting currently in January of each year. Officers are Senior and Junior Wardens, Clerk, and Treasurer. The Senior Warden is the Rector's warden, and is chosen by the Rector. The remaining officers are chosen by the vestry from among the members of the vestry or the congregation at large. The Vestry members normally serve a three year term. Members of the Vestry must be Members in Good Standing of the parish. The Vestry is responsible for the financial and administrative business of the parish. The two Wardens act as executive officers and spokespersons for the committee and should be contacted, if the priest cannot be reached for an emergency. The Vestry meets on the second Sunday of the month at 11:20 a.m. Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are open to members of the congregation. Vestry members serve as liaisons to the following parish standing commissions:
