THE MARBLE ANGEL

The marble angel was a gift to St. Luke’s.  It was part of the treasurers that J. C. Rogers brought to Wamego from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, or the 1893 Chicago’s World Fair.

In the words of Gloria Marten;

“The marble angel was given to St. Luke’s in Memory of my Grandmother, Mary Ann Rogers, Uncle Willie Rogers, Uncle Walter Rogers, and Uncle Duke Rogers - by my mother Isabel Hill and my aunt, Genevieve Smith (daughter of J. C. Rogers).  These people were their mother and their three brothers.  It was given after 1937 but in late 50's I can remember when it was in the old Roger’s home when I was a little girl.  It came from the World’s Fair Columbian Exposition 1893 where all the painting, artifacts etc. that are at the Columbian Theater, comes from at the same time.  It was given as a gift to St. Luke’s.”

The marble angle has been in the north choir window for as long as most current members can remember.
